The Washington University Neurosurgery Residency Program has a long and storied history of educating outstanding neurosurgeons. The program was pioneered by Ernest Sachs, MD, the first American specifically trained to be a neurological surgeon. With Harvey Cushing, MD, Dr. Sachs also was instrumental in establishing the Society of Neurological Surgeons in 1920, the first neurosurgical society in the world. Today our seven-year residency training program is ranked among the top in the nation, and we offer three options for advanced fellowship training.
