Second opinion by Washington University neurosurgeon leads to successful treatment of stroke in 25 year old

Neurosurgeon Gregory J. Zipfel, MD, co-director, Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center, provided a second opinion to Krysta Owings, a 25-year-old woman who suffered a stroke. The stroke was caused by an arteriovenous malformation, or AVM, that had ruptured. Dr. Zipfel removed the AVM, and after advancing through rehab and recovery, Krysta is partnering with Barnes-Jewish Hospital to get the word out about the seriousness of strokes in young people.
