PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
At Washington University School of Medicine, physicians from the disciplines of neurosurgery, neurology, interventional neuroradiology, neuroanesthesia and radiation oncology coordinate the care of patients with all types of neurovascular disorders including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), cavernous malformations, carotid artery stenosis, Moyamoya disease, stroke and vascular tumors. Novel techniques such as bypass and skull-base surgery, endovascular therapy, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, Stealth computerized surgical navigation, and functional scanning (PET) allow our team to offer sophisticated treatment plans for some patients whose lesions were previously deemed untreatable.
CONDITIONS & TREATMENTS
Aneurysms
Microsurgical repair with routine use of intraoperative angiography and select use of skull-base and bypass surgery; endovascular therapy including use of Guglielmi detachable coil embolization, balloon remodeling, and stenting
AVMs and AVFs
Microsurgical resection including use of Stealth computerized surgical navigation and intraoperative brain mapping; embolization; Gamma Knife radiosurgery
Cavernous malformations
Microsurgical resection including Stealth computerized surgical navigation and intraoperative brain mapping; Gamma Knife radiosurgery
Carotid artery stenosis/cerebrovascular stenosis
Endarterectomy; angioplasty; stenting
Moyamoya Disease
Innovative use of quantitative cerebral blood flow analysis (PET); direct and/or indirect bypass surgery for revascularization
Vascular Tumors
Microsurgical resection including Stealth computerized surgical navigation and select use of skull-base surgery; embolization; novel intra-arterial chemotherapy techniques; Gamma Knife radiosurgery
Ischemic stroke
Emergent evaluation by vascular neurology; use of intravenous and intra-arterial t-PA; carotid endarterectomy; angioplasty; stenting

CONFERENCES
Cerebrovascular conference
Once a week. All cerebrovascular cases are reviewed by neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology to determine an optimal, individualized treatment plan. Physicians wishing to submit cases for review should contact the cerebrovascular nurse coordinator at (314) 747-8871.
Stroke conference
Every other week. Lecture series and select case reviews by vascular neurology, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology faculty. Please refer to www.strokecenter.org for conference dates and times.
